Join the fight against food waste this Stop Food Waste Day 2024

Did you know?

  • $3,800 is the annual cost of food wasted by the average Australian family
  • 33% of all food produced globally is lost or wasted every year
  • 45% of root crops, fruit and vegetables produced globally is lost or wasted per year

To combat these alarming global statistics Compass Group launched Stop Food Waste Day in 2017. It is now the largest single day of action in the fight against global food waste, raising awareness of the issue and encouraging the industry and consumers to reduce the amount of food thrown away.

The aims of Stop Food Waste Day

  • Prevent global food waste at the source by storing food optimally, making use of every edible part of the ingredient and planning meals ahead of time.
  • Inspire everyone – friends, colleagues, local communities – to reduce food waste and repurpose more.
  • Repurpose food by giving a second life to ingredients that most commonly go to waste, or by redistributing surplus food to your local community.

Join us in the fight this Wednesday, 24 April 2024.

Stop Food Waste Day has become a global movement, and a core part of our culture at Compass Group. Our chefs and frontline teams understand the opportunity that we have to empower the communities we serve with knowledge, tips, and tricks to reduce food waste; not only in our cafes but in their homes and beyond.”  – Amy Keister, Global Director of Sustainability at Compass Group
